The Sabbath means the day of rest. The first appearance of this word in the Bible is in the book of Genesis.

And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it:because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

Gen 2:2-3

Here in this verse we can emphasise the importance the Bible gives to the Sabbath. Words like "blessed", "a day set apart for him" make it clear that among all the days of the week the Sabbath is set apart. There is no other day in the week that God has declared holy and blessed. Furthermore, if we read in the book of Exodus when quoting the ten commandments we get further details on the significance of the Sabbath. It is the fourth commandment to be observed.

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God (nom de Dieuin it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For The LORD made (His Title as Creator) made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, (His jurisdiction)and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

exode 20: 8-11

The words that are highlighted in this verse are:

  1. Remember: the word remember calls for the commemoration and celebration of this day.
  2. Hallowed: means to make holy or to revere as holy.
  3. The seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: this is a day reserved for God. He has placed his name there.
  4. The LORD made:here it emphasises his position, his title. He is Creator.
  5. Heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is: the mention of a space, an environment shows here the territory of jurisdiction.

If we analyse all these details, we understand that the Sabbath is the royal coat of arms of the kingdom of heaven: the Seal of God.

According to yourdictionary.com the meaning of Seal: To affix a seal to (something) in order to prove authenticity, accuracy, or quality. A wax wafer, piece of paper, etc. bearing the impression of some official design and used as to authenticate a signature or document. In common law, an impression in wax, wafer, or other substance put on a document and attesting to its authenticity; a similar impression placed over the edge of an envelope, its unbroken condition indicating that the envelope is unopened, hence its contents are untampered with. A corporation’s seal is at times called a common seal. the act of placing an impression upon an envelope or document to designate that it is undisturbed, the act of closing. To certify as being accurate, exact, of a given size, quality, capacity, etc. by fixing a stamp or seal to.

Moreover, in the days of the royalty, the seal validated the laws within the jurisdiction of the royalty. No law was valid without the royal seal. Kings were required to ratify decrees or orders with the royal seal (1 Kings 21:8).

How important should the Sabbath be in my life?

If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

The Lord requires His followers to be His representatives. Christ came into the world to represent the character of God, and the Lord sent His ministers to represent the character of the Father and the Son {RH, October 28, 1890 par. 7}

En acceptant d’observer le Sabbat nous nous revêtons de l’image de Dieu et témoignons de la souveraineté de Dieu.

C’est ici la persévérance des saints, qui gardent les commandements de Dieu et la foi de Jésus.

Apocalypse 14:12

Don't be caught off guard!!!

The three messages of this chapter constitute a threefold warning to prepare the inhabitants of the earth for the second coming of the Lord.2 The proclamation, "The hour of his judgment is come," calls attention to the work of Jesus Christ for man's salvation. It reveals a truth that must be proclaimed until the Saviour's intercession ceases and He descends from heaven to earth to seek His people. The trial of the judgment begun in 1844 will continue until the cases of the dead and the living have all been examined; it will therefore last until the close of probation. In order to give men the opportunity to stand before the Lord, the message invites them to "fear God, give him glory" and "worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water". The result of obedience to these messages is indicated in these words: "Here is the patience of the saints, who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. "Indeed, in order to dare to face the fearful trial of judgment, one must necessarily keep the law of God. The apostle Paul says: "All who have sinned with the law will be judged by the law ... on the day when ... God will judge the secret deeds of men through Jesus Christ. "He adds that it is "those who do the law who will be justified. "3 It is by faith alone that the law can be kept; for "without faith it is impossible to please God. The apostle implies here what he says elsewhere, when he declares: "whatever is not done by faith is sin. "4TS 472.1
The first angel invites the world to "fear God, give him glory", and worship him as the Creator of heaven and earth. This is tantamount to an exhortation to abide by his law. The Wise Man says: "Fear God and keep His commandments; this is the duty of every man. "1 Apart from the observance of His commandments, no worship can be pleasing to God. "The love of God consists in keeping his commandments. "If anyone turns away his ear from hearing the law, his very prayer is an abomination. "2TS 473.1
The duty to worship God derives from his being the Creator to whom all beings owe their existence. Whenever the Scriptures assert God's right to be worshipped rather than the pagan deities, it is to His creative power that they appeal. "All the gods of the people are idols, and the Lord made the heavens. "3 "To whom will you compare me, that I may be like him? Lift up your eyes and see! Who created these things? "Thus says the Lord, the Creator of the heavens, the only God, who formed the earth, who made it and established it. ... I am the Lord, and there is no other. "4 The psalmist also writes: "Know that the Lord is God; he has made us, and we are his. "Let us bow our knees to the Lord, our Creator. "5 And the holy beings who worship God in heaven give the reason for their worship as follows: "You are worthy, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honour and power; for you created all things. "6TS 473.2
The threefold message of the fourteenth chapter of Revelation, which invites men to worship the Creator, points to the formation of a people who observe God's commandments as the result of its call. Now one of these commandments formally recalls that God is the Creator. The fourth precept says: "The seventh day is the day of rest of the Lord your God. ... For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day: therefore the Lord blessed the day of rest and hallowed it. "1 Speaking of his day of rest, the Lord adds, "Let there be a sign between me and you, that you may know that I am the Lord your God. "2 And the reason is given: "For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he ceased his work and rested. "3TS 473.3
TS 474.1
