Observe and know that most human laws reflect the law of God. God's law offers freedom, respect and Love.

The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

Psalm 19:7

The law: does it really exist? If so, what is its purpose?

God's law consists of the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17) and its statutes. Its fundamental principle is Love Romans 13:10 and 1 John 4:8, for when you think about it each of the Ten Commandments are principles of harmonious living for man and his surroundings.

1 And God spake all these words, saying, 2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. 7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. 8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the rest of the Lord your God. : in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. 12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. 13 Thou shalt not kill. 14 Thou shalt not commit adultery. 15 Thou shalt not steal. 16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. 17Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

 Exodus 20:1-17

Would you want to obey a God who promulgates stealing or killing or who encourages you to bow down to a rock or a picture? So this proves to us that God's Law is consistent and based on Love.

The Law of God

And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.

And the tables were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, graven upon the tables.

Exodus 31:18/ Exodus 32:16

Now, why do we have the law? And what is the real purpose of the law? The Bible tells us in Romans 3:20 (...) through the law comes the knowledge of sin. What is the connection between the law and the sin ?

Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

1 John 3:4

Sin: Why is it a transgression of the Law?

By his rebellion, Adam lost the happiness of living in an idyllic place where Love reigned. Now he was faced with the opposite, i.e. hatred and its complements: jealousy, envy, depression, stress, anxiety, torture, perversity, deceit, insecurity, theft, stubbornness, lies, disease, violence, and at the very most, death.

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Rom 6:23

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Gal 5:19-21

Romans 5:12 tells us that through Adam, sin entered the world and was passed on to all men, for "the wages of sin is death. "(Romans 6:23). Furthermore, we are told again in Galatians 3:22 "But the Scripture has shown that all men were sinners..."; Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

Satan has come down with great power to walk with the children of men. Their senses are perverted according to his plans. He leads the enchantment to the sight he presents to them, covering transgression with great desire. As he tempted Adam and Eve, saying, "Ye shall be as gods, made wise by the taking of the fruit which God hath forbidden you to eat," so he tempts men and women today. {ST, June 27, 1900 par. 5}.

Le Péché

So I am separated from God because I am a sinner? Isaiah 59:2 "But your iniquities have separated you from your God, and your sins have made him hide his face from you.
If I understand correctly, sin not only includes death for me but also separates me from God, the author of the source of life.
So the whole world and myself are transgressors of God's law, consequently we deserve death; yes all of humanity. What is left for me to hope for in life? The Bible tells us that the law of the Lord is perfect... (Psalms 19:7) and that God is Love (1John 4:8). Surely we can ask ourselves where is the character of God's love in the death of mankind? But since man has fallen, God has prophesied:

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Gen 3:15

But a hope has been set before every sinner. The moment Adam yielded to Satan's temptation and did the thing God commanded him not to do, Christ, the Son of God, stood between the living and the dead, saying, "Let the punishment fall on Me. I will stand in man's place. Give him another chance. The Transgression placed the whole world under sentence of death. But in heaven they heard a voice saying, "I have found a ransom. "He who knew no sin was made sin for fallen man."

Mort de Jésus

« Dieu a tant aimé le monde, qu’Il a donné Son Fils unique, pour que quiconque croit en Lui ne devrait pas périr, mais avoir la vie éternelle « . Jean 3:16 Christ a quitté sa robe royal et la couronne royale et a renoncé à sa gouvernance sur tout le ciel. Il a habillé sa divinité avec l’humanité, en sorte qu’Il pourrait porter toutes les infirmités et supporter toutes les tentations de l’humanité. Il était un Homme de tristesses et habitué au  chagrin. Il a été blessé pour nos transgressions et iniquités. La punition de notre paix était sur Lui, et avec ses blessures nous sommes guéris. Pour nous Il est devenu pauvre, que par sa pauvreté nous pourrions être faits riches. Pour nous Il a laissé l’adoration des anges pour les insultes et les exécrations d’une foule poussée à la folie par les prêtres et les dirigeants. {ST, June 27, 1900 par. 6}

It is precisely in the person of Jesus Christ, through his sacrifice, that God demonstrated his character of Love by saving humanity from eternal death.
So being a transgressor of God's law, the whole world as well as myself need salvation.

God's goal is the perpetual destruction of sin. He is removing sin in the believer now, but the time will come when the Lord will do "his strange work" (Isaiah 28:21 ) and eliminate both the author of sin and sin itself. The Bible calls this a "strange act" because annihilation is so contrary to the character of God.
God wants to save every person, but those who have rejected Him have allied themselves with sin and selfishness. Those who wish to cling to their sin cannot be allowed to trouble the universe forever. Sin has been the cause of all the pain and sorrow on this planet. In order to finally remove all pain and sorrow, and to ensure that it never returns to disturb the peace and harmony of the universe, sin will be annihilated. If people cherish sin and do not allow God to mould their characters into His divine nature, God has no choice but to allow their destruction and the very sin they cherish. http://amazingdiscoveries.org/S-deception_end-time_millennium_santification

So they have a clear light on this subject and no excuse for their guilt in denying and disobeying God's authority. Adam did not stop to consider what would be the result of his disobedience. {ST, April 10, 1893 par. 6}. With the vision of the after we are privileged in this age, we can see what it means to disobey God's commands. Adam yielded to temptation and we have sin and its consequences set distinctly before us. Reasoning from cause to effect, we see that it is not the magnitude of the act of disobedience that constitutes sin, but the fact of disagreement with God expressed will be in the least particular, for this is a virtual denial of God, a rebellion against the laws of His government. Man's happiness is found in obedience to God's laws. According to God's law he is protected as with a hedge and kept from evil.

No man can deviate from the requirements indicated by God and set up a standard of his own, which he decides and can safely follow and still find peace and joy. Or each would leave to follow his own path, there would be a variety of standards to suit different minds and the government would be kept out of the hands of the Lord and man would take the reins. The law of self would be established. The will of man would be made supreme; and the high and holy will of God would be dishonoured, disrespected. To the extent that man would follow the promptings of his selfish heart it is impossible to say. But when man chooses his own way, there is controversy between man and God. ST - Signs of Times: April 10, 1893 Overcome As Christ Overcame. By Mrs. E. G. White.

So our duty is to obey God's law so that we do not sin and defile our relationship with God. The Bible answers us in Ecclesiastes 12:13 Fear God and keep His commandments. This is what every man should do; Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And this is the second, which is like it: you shall love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets.
